![]() To conduct an eye scan, the technology used for the scan directs infrared light into the eye at wavelengths smaller than visible light. These scans function as verification methods because each human iris has unique patterns and color circles that can be used to identify them. On the surface, we don’t see the complexity of the iris-we see the melanin-colored ring but not much else. The iris is the colored ring in our eyes, a muscle that expands and contracts the eye based on the amount of light entering the eye itself. These biometrics are used to grant access to devices or to support biometric password setups for applications installed on the devices.Īnother form of biometrics that is closely related to facial recognition is the iris scan. Fingerprint and facial scanners are more and more common on mobile devices like smartphones, tablets, and laptops. Some forms of biometrics are more common than others in the consumer and enterprise space. The idea behind this approach to authentication is that these physical features should be almost 100% unique to the user, and as such, can serve as an un-spoofable way to verify them when they try to access their accounts. What Are Iris Biometrics and How Do They Work?īiometric scanning uses a user’s physical features (a fingerprint, facial scan, voice authentication, or iris scan) as part of an identity verification process. These scanners will illuminate the eye to find the distinctive pattern specific to each individual and then add that data to the database. So, how do iris biometrics work? As a result, Sure Sense users will not need to rely on frequent updates or Internet connectivity when compared to traditional anti-virus software. The biggest benefit of this approach, however, is that the algorithm will be able to detect brand new malware and viruses "including those that were created just yesterday". HP General Manager of commercial PCs Andy Rhodes is promising a detection success rate of over 99 percent, a detection and quarantine speed of 20 ms, and a CPU usage of only 1 percent when Sure Sense is active. This AI-developed algorithm would then be installed onto a special "agent" chip inside the laptop that can automatically scan system files and perform the necessary tasks on infected files. HP's approach, however, takes machine learning to the next level by feeding hundreds of millions of different files - both good and bad - to an Nvidia-powered data center in order to train the system on how to tell the difference between healthy and infected files.
